What is Wall Bay Shelving?

Wall bay shelving is a single-sided display system that mounts against a wall or backpanel, making full use of your shop's perimeter space. Each bay consists of upright posts, adjustable shelves, a top shelf and a base plinth, giving you a complete display from floor to ceiling.

  • Single-sided design sits flush against walls
  • Fully adjustable shelf heights on 25mm pitch
  • Heavy-duty steel construction rated for commercial use
  • Compatible with peg hooks, wire baskets and shelf dividers
  • Modular design: connect multiple bays for continuous runs

Installation Guide

A practical overview of what is involved in fitting wall bay shelving. This is a general guide -- final fixing method will depend on your wall structure and application.

Tools Needed

  • Power drill with masonry / wood bits
  • Spirit level (1200mm recommended)
  • Tape measure and pencil
  • Socket set or spanner for bolts
  • Rubber mallet (for shelf clips)

Components & Preparation

  • Upright posts (2 per starter bay, 1 per add-on)
  • Base plinth and top shelf per bay
  • Intermediate shelves (typically 4-6 per bay)
  • Backpanel (plain, pegboard or perforated)
  • Wall fixings appropriate to wall type

Step-by-Step Overview

  1. 1

    Mark upright positions

Measure and mark the wall for each upright post. Use a spirit level to ensure all marks are plumb.

  2. 2

    Fix uprights to wall

Drill and plug the wall, then bolt each upright securely. Ensure posts are vertical before tightening fully.

  3. 3

    Attach backpanel

Slot or clip the backpanel between uprights. This supports the shelving and provides a clean backdrop.

  4. 4

Fit base plinth and top shelf

Lock the base plinth at floor level and the top shelf at your chosen height. These anchor the bay structure.

  5. 5

    Add intermediate shelves

Clip shelves into the upright slots at your required heights. Adjust spacing to suit your product range.

  6. 6

    Add accessories

Fit peg hooks, wire baskets, shelf dividers or ticket strips as required for your merchandising layout.

Important: Wall Fixings & Load Capacity

The correct fixing method depends on your wall type (brick, block, stud/plasterboard, concrete). Always verify the wall structure before drilling. For stud walls, fixings must go into the timber studs -- do not rely on plasterboard alone for load-bearing shelving.

Maximum shelf load will vary based on fixing type, wall condition and shelf depth. If you are unsure about your wall type or loading requirements, contact us for advice or request an installation quote.
